This webinar will discuss options for dogs and cats before they leave home to make travel to the vet clinic and the clinical examination a positive experience. This includes pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals to counteract anxiety and fear. Car sickness is often overlooked as a stressor in pets and drugs are available to combat this. Familiarizing cats with carriers and car rides will be discussed along with choosing the correct carrier. Tips to help dogs with osteoarthritis navigate getting into and out of vehicles will be provided. Examples of simple changes that the veterinary team can make such as providing dedicated parking spots for senior dogs will be discussed.

Dr. Sheilah graduated from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. She spent time as a surgery intern followed by specialized training in anesthesia and analgesia including a PhD at Bristol University (United Kingdom). She is board certified in anesthesia and in animal welfare in the USA and Europe. Dr. Sheilah has been a faculty member in university veterinary schools in the UK, Canada, and the US. She spent 2 years as an assistant director in the division of Animal Welfare at the American Veterinary Medical Association. She has published widely on the recognition and alleviation of acute pain in cats.
